Project Title Project Beacon
Synopsis In 2016, a Straits Times report revealed that 1 in 150 children in Singapore has autism, a higher rate than the World Health Organisation global rate of 1 in 160 children. Additionally, there was a 76 per cent jump, from 2,500 to 4,400, in the numbers of such children from 2010 to 2014. After learning about the pressing problem of autism among children in Singapore, we, project Beacon, have worked hand in hand with Rainbow Centre, targeting children from 4 to 6 years - old, while aiming to improve their fine motor and communication skills. We have carried out several interaction sessions, followed by a series of handicraft lessons and also invited student volunteers to help out. By doing so, Project Beacon hopes to improve the lives of the children, with them being able to perform simple life tasks and communicate effectively.
