Project Title Removing hazardous metal ions by superparamagnetic nanoparticles
Synopsis Nanoparticles are particles between 1 and 100 nanometers in size. They are generally synthesised by physical and chemical means which have drawbacks, namely expensive reagent, hazardous reaction condition, longer time, tedious process to isolate nanoparticles. Approximately 884 million people in the world lack access to safe water supplies (United Nations, 2017). And more than 840,000 people die each year from water-related diseases (Water.org 2016) This is mainly due to the fact that many factories in those countries do not properly treat their wastewater. More than 80% of sewage in developing countries is discharged untreated, polluting rivers, lakes and coastal areas (Paris UNESCO publications, 2009)
